It’s the first question almost everyone asks before personalizing a card: will a wrap damage my card, or stop it from working? It’s a fair concern — so let’s walk through exactly how card wraps interact with your card, your chip, and the tap reader.
Short answer: no, a quality card wrap won’t damage your card
A custom card wrap is a thin layer of adhesive vinyl that sits on the surface of your card. It doesn’t alter the card’s internals, and it peels off cleanly if you ever want to remove it. Your card underneath stays exactly as it was.
Does the chip still work?
Yes. Our wraps are cut with the chip area left open, so the metal contacts are never covered. When you insert your card, the reader touches the chip directly — the wrap isn’t in the way. On custom wraps, that chip cutout is handled automatically when you place your image.
What about tap-to-pay?
Contactless (tap) payments use an antenna embedded inside the card, and a thin vinyl wrap doesn’t block the signal. Tap-to-pay continues to work normally with a wrap applied.
Will it leave residue or ruin the card if I remove it?
A good-quality wrap uses an adhesive designed to remove cleanly. When you peel it off, it shouldn’t leave gummy residue or lift the card’s printing. That means you can refresh your look whenever you like.
